Mortgage Hub
MortgageHub is Target Group’s next-generation, fully digital mortgage origination platform, rebuilt from the ground up to replace a legacy, multi-application system with a modern, API-driven, Open Banking-enabled solution.
Leading a compact team of three developers, I architected and delivered the new core UI and application foundations—introducing a reusable component library, GraphQL-based services, and a cloud-ready SaaS model—enabling rapid Decisions in Principle and a streamlined, customer-centric journey for brokers, lenders and borrowers.

Client
Tech Mahindra via Target Group
Target Group (part of Tech Mahindra) needed to modernise its flagship mortgage origination platform, MortgageHub, which had become complex, slow to change and heavily dependent on a 45-strong development team.
The wider goal was to replace outdated, manual mortgage processes with a fully digital, API-driven journey that could deliver rapid Decisions in Principle (DiP) in around 20 seconds, integrate Open Banking data, and meet rising customer expectations for a seamless, digital-first experience.
I was initially brought in to assess whether the existing platform could be incrementally modernised, but it quickly became clear that a full rebuild was required. I led a compact team of three app developers, working closely with UX, stakeholders and business analysts to architect a new, modular, future-proof foundation for multiple linked mortgage applications.
We designed a modern GraphQL/API-driven architecture with a new security model, implemented a reusable component library with dynamic theming, and introduced Storybook, Material UI and Redux into the delivery flow to accelerate UI development and enforce consistency.
The result was a cloud-ready SaaS platform that could run as a standalone origination solution or integrate into lenders’ existing systems, with best-in-class ecosystem integrations and Open Banking at its core.
Challenges
Key challenges included untangling the legacy, multi-application estate into a clean, service-driven architecture while keeping business stakeholders aligned on scope and timelines.
Delivering an enterprise-grade, secure, high-performing platform with a vastly reduced core team (from 45 to 3) required strong technical leadership, rigorous prioritisation and tight collaboration across UX, product and engineering.
We also had to design for a broad ecosystem—brokers, underwriters, lenders and third parties — ensuring robust API connectivity, Open Banking integrations and real-time data flows that could support complex credit decisioning.
Outcomes
The rebuilt MortgageHub was positioned as a fully digitalised, next-generation mortgage origination platform, capable of providing a Decision in Principle in as little as 20 seconds and significantly reducing repetitive data entry for brokers and lenders.
Our new core foundations enabled Target Group to streamline and restructure their development model, with lean UI teams now building on the platform rather than maintaining a fragile legacy codebase.
MortgageHub has been promoted as set to “revolutionise” the way lenders and brokers place mortgages, with real-time Open Banking data, modular architecture and a superior user experience that is highly regarded by existing and potential clients (including major brands such as Virgin).
